Overview

Study a research degree (MPhil/Ph.D.) in Health Sciences to deepen your knowledge and engage in research that can change policies and lives.

Our research degree in Health Sciences has a strong focus on nursing, mental health, psychosocial influences on health and illness, health and social care workforce, policy and practice research. Supported by a team of expert supervisors, you will learn to apply qualitative and/or quantitative research methods to work towards a substantial piece of research.

Our specialist areas include public health, healthcare workforce and delivery, simulation, experiences of health and illness, sexual health, mental health, substance abuse, health economics, aging and chronic diseases.

As a research student, you will benefit from the research resources available at the Institute for Lifecourse Development (ILD). The ILD holds regular research events including a popular research seminar series, a 3-Minute-Thesis competition and regular research cafés. There are also opportunities for Ph.D. students to gain support with research costs and to present their research at national and international conferences.

Entry Requirements:

For entry to our Master’s programs, you will need to have met the following:

  • Four-year bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 55% for UK 2:2 or with a minimum of 65% for UK 2:1

OR

  • Achieving 2 (or 1) years Masters after 2 or 3-year degree with a minimum grade of 55% for UK 2:2 or with a minimum of 65% for UK 2:1

English Language Req:

  • IELTS (Undergraduate: 6.5/5.5 | Postgraduate: 6.0/5.5)
  • PTE
  • TOEFL
  • OITEC (C1, not Less than B2)
